Rules acoustic guitar

SAI Guitar Arena – Acoustic Guitar, is for acoustic guitar players in a variety of musical genres, excluding classical music. This SAI guitar competition is the only competition of its kind in the Czech Republic. It opens on 1 October, 2024 October 1, 2024 when it is possible to create a registration for both Czech and foreign participants. The deadline for entries is 6 November, 2024 until 11:59 pm.

The competition is exclusively for solo acoustic guitar players who play their own music or arrangements of existing music, but not sung songs. Participants may play with their fingers and various types of picks on metal and nylon strings and use a looper.

Logging in is done by uploading a recording recorded on video here into the Guitar Arena website system. If the participant has no other way to record the tracks on higher quality equipment, he/she can record the tracks directly on a mobile phone or camera, but without video or audio editing in the studio.

Competition criteria

  1. Genre of music – participants can play songs of any genre except classical music.
  2. Choice of music – it is up to the participant. The contestant should have prepared at least three songs for the whole competition in different tempos (slow, medium and fast).
  3. Types of guitars – participants can play any acoustic guitar.
  4. Age of participants – age is not a factor.

Competition progress

Deadline for entries is 6 November, 2024 by 11:59 pm.

The expert jury will select 10 semi-finalists from the submitted and duly entered recordings.

Semi-finals

  1. The semi-final will take place in private in front of the jury on 14 November, 2024 by 4:00 pm in the music hall of the Conservatory in Pardubice, Sukova třída 1260. For the semi-finals, the selected musicians will prepare two compositions of different character in different tempos.
  2. A professional jury of professional musicians will select the 5 advancing to the finals.

Finals

  1. In the final round, the advancing musicians will play any two pieces of different character in different tempos. They can also be pieces from the semi-finals.
  2. The finals will take place at the same place but in public on 14 November, 2024 by 7:00 pm in the music hall of the Conservatory in Pardubice (address: Sukova třída 1260). The finals will be part of the evening concert.
  3. The jury will determine the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place out of five finalists.
  4. During the concert performance of the finalists, the audience will have the opportunity to choose their favourite and he/she will receive the audience award.
